This necklace combines a variety of beads: brass baule, large brown bone, coconut spacers, Mala brass inlaid, and brass beads.
Baule beads are made from the lost wax casting process dating way back to ancient West Africa. These beads are from the Ivory Coast. Historically Baule beads were used as weights and to measure gold. Some of the oldest evidence of the use of this technique have been discovered in areas of southern Israel, dating back to 3500 BC.
The large brown bone beads from Kenya are handcrafted by artisans using recycled cow bone. Each one-of-a-kind bead is individually carved and polished.
The Mala beads are handmade prayer beads made from bone and inlaid with brass.
